Are Spring Allergies Making You Miserable? The Answer Lies in Your Body Type

As winter fades and the warm breeze of spring arrives in Artesia, many look forward to the blooming flowers

. However, for those suffering from allergic rhinitis, spring is often a season of dread. Pollen, dust, and wind can trigger a relentless cycle of sneezing, runny noses, and congestion.

At Sam’s Acupuncture, we look beyond the symptoms. According to Sasang Constitutional Medicine, your unique body type determines how your respiratory system reacts to these environmental triggers.

Why Does Your Body React This Way?

In Korean Medicine, we categorize individuals into distinct “constitutions.” Two types, in particular, are most susceptible to spring allergies:

  • The “Taemin-in” Type: These individuals naturally have a stronger “gathering” energy but a weaker “dispersing” energy in the lungs. When allergens like pollen enter the body, the lungs struggle to expel them, leading to inflammation and heavy congestion.

  • The “Soeumin” Type: For this type, the root cause is often

  •  internal “coldness.” When the body temperature drops, the lungs lose their vitality, making them hypersensitive to even slight temperature changes or allergens, resulting in clear discharge and sneezing.

  • The “Soyangin” Type: Unlike the others, this type often suffers from excess internal “heat” rising to the upper body. This dries out the nasal membranes, causing itching, redness, and a dry, stuffy feeling.

A Modern Success Story: Real Relief through Saam Acupuncture

Recently, a 50-year-old Hispanic patient visited our clinic. Working in construction, he had suffered from chronic nasal congestion since childhood. After a thorough diagnosis, he was identified as a Taemin-in type with excess heat in the liver.

Using Saam Acupuncture—a specialized Korean technique—we focused on cooling the liver and strengthening his lung energy. The patient experienced a significant and immediate improvement in his breathing. After a few days of herbal supplements tailored to his constitution, he returned with a smile, saying he had finally enjoyed a full night of restful sleep without congestion.

Personalized Care for Lasting Results

While every patient’s journey is different, and results can vary depending on the severity of the condition, a personalized approach to acupuncture and herbal medicine offers a high probability of relief. By balancing your body’s internal systems, you can stop just “managing” symptoms and start breathing freely again.
